Sunday

Happy Sunday Night!

Tea is really my coffee. I drink it every morning, pretty much all day and into the evening. In the mornings I kick it up with some Herbalife Herbal Tea Concentrate. I like to call it "Crack Tea". It's basically a big ol' jolt of caffeine!

Now, if I could only give up the pop! Maybe one of these days ;)

This one right here is a sports fanatic! He will watch ANY sport...golf, bowling, poker. It doesn't matter. If someone can win or lose, he'll watch it. He wakes up every morning and checks the stats.

Sunday is no different. He tapes whatever games he isn't able to stay up and watch. This morning instead of watching cartoons he watched a college game he missed last night.

Maybe he'll grow up to be a bracketologist?

While I know he enjoys the game, it's also about the scores and brackets.

He's like "Rain Man" with numbers...I always joke he will make us rich someday because we'll take him to Las Vegas the day he turns 21!

One thing I try to do on Sundays is to plan our meals for the week. If we don't plan and don't get everything on Sunday, we end up eating out and eating junk.

I always feel really accomplished if I get this done as well as my lunches for the week.

On the menu this week:

Sunday-Tacos
Monday-Grilled Chicken and Italian Potatoes
Tuesday-Pepper Steak and rice
Wednesday-Cajun Grilled Shrimp, baked potato and salad (It's Ash Wednesday)
Thursday-Taco Salad
Friday-BBQ Chicken and potato salad

Starting this week I prepped a few things for lunches and then I'll use leftovers when I need to.

I really want to get away from processed foods and all of those prepacked meals. They are so high in sodium and quite frankly, after awhile they are just gross.

Last but not least this happened!

My wife earned her Associate Degree! She is working on her bachelor degree in Education. I know, we are both crazy but it works for us! I can't wait for the day that we are all off in the summers. Not to mention, she will make a great teacher and God knows we need more of those!

I am so proud of her and all of her hard work!!

Hopefully you had a productive yet relaxing Sunday!

Tuesday Teacher Tidbits!

I haven't always been a teacher. It's my second grown up job, but my first career. Every time I say that word I hear it in a Latin accent coming from the mouth of Agador Spartacus from Bird Cage. You don't? Watch the movie.

In my previous life I worked for a major insurance company. In a cube. In front of a computer. Just thinking about it gives me anxiety.

Jeepers! That's how it felt.

Anywhoo...I had a baby and decided the coffin could wait! I quit my job, went back to school and became a teacher. I know right! WTEFF?!

But I love it. I really do! I can't imagine doing anything else. There's just the right amount of crazy for me and it keeps me busy. I do best when I'm busy.

Teacher Tidbits you ask?

Teachers are an odd combination of OCD and ADHD. I know sounds cray-cray but it's true. Our brains are all over the place, yet we know exactly where EVERYTHING in our classroom is, no matter how messy or neat. We are the epitome of multi-tasking. I happen to be one of those nut job teachers that has to have everything in its place. Yet I'm always late and flat iron my hair at my desk.

I have been known to stop a lesson, make everyone get up so I could straighten the desks.

Poor kids.

Sigh.

Okay, back to the tidbits. Teachers need order. So what does order have to do with this blog. I need some focus. So Tuesdays are going to be "Tuesday Teacher Tidbits". You know like "Sandwich Night."

Remember where that's from? About Last Night. The movie? I'm old I know.
Now do you remember? No? Go ask your mom.

But that's what TTT is like. An acronym. I'm a teacher. Wink.

The posts will be a mix of what I'm teaching, why I teach, what the hell was I thinking becoming a teacher thoughts, and everything in between.

So, if you are teacher, wanna be a teacher(ha!), know a teacher, love a teacher, hate a teacher...come back on Tuesdays for some TTT. It's sure to be a rootin' tootin' time. Another line from another tv show. I do that a lot.

Sorry.

Not really.

I promise I do read.

Sometimes.

The Roller Coaster

I have been on this weight loss journey for years. If I'm honest. Years.

Or as I like to call it, the weight loss roller coaster. I love roller coasters I really do, but not this one.

This one I hate.

This one is like one of those raggedy ones they put up in a mall parking lot for the weekend. You know the ones I'm talking about.

Do you know some of the synonyms for roller coaster?

Turbulence, upheaval, tizzy and ruckus.

Sounds about right.

Over the years I've lost a significant amount of weight on the roller coaster. I've done this with Weight Watchers, pills, just not eating, exercising like a lab rat on amphetamines...you name it.

Ruckus.

But it always comes back. Well, most of it does.

I want off the ride.

I want the opposite of the ride.

Whatever word that would be.

I want to end the war in my head that tells me I need to diet, I need to run, I need to not eat carbs, not eat meat, not eat this or only eat that.

Drink nasty ass warm lemon water.

Whatever.

So, today I decided to get off the ride.

Fuck that ride.

I'm getttin' on one of these.

This I can ride FOREVER.

Happy Monday!

Enjoy the Ride ;)

My First Post!

Welcome!!

This is my new blog! If you know me you probably know I used to have a cookie blog, Ashli's Cookie Creations. I love making cookies but as the years have gone by it has just become too much work. Making decorated sugar cookies is very time consuming and while I will definitely do some of that here it will not be this blog's main focus.

What you will find here is a little bit of everything...mom stuff, spouse stuff, teacher stuff and of course food stuff because well ,I am a foodie.

I am a mom to one witty, strong headed boy and wife to an amazing woman who supports me always.

By day I am a special education teacher who very soon will be a first grade teacher (more on that later) and a baker/cook by night!

My goal is for this to be more like a lifestyle blog and not be so hyper-focused on any one thing. A place I can share my family's experiences, recipes, my adventures as a teacher and all the amazing moments in between.

Stick around and see what you think!

My best,

Ashli :)
